Claim

An event that causes damage covered by an insurance policy up to a certain amount. In response to the claim (or loss), the insurance company is obliged to pay the capital guaranteed in the contract, in whole or in part, to the insured or to their beneficiaries.

Examples of claims/losses are the following:

  • Fire resulting in the total or partial destruction of an insured building.
  • A traffic accident resulting in personal injury or property damage.
  • A shipwreck in which a vessel or the goods carried are lost.
  • Hail that destroys an agricultural crop.

How to process a claim
