Closing auction

The closing auction is a trading period at the end of the session where orders that will not be executed can be entered, modified, and canceled. This auction lasts 5 minutes on average and balances the bid and ask price.

The closing auction is conducted to prevent speculation and to even out the volatility with which markets would otherwise open and close.

An opening auction is also held at the beginning of the trading session.
