The information ratio is a financial ratio that measures the relationship between the spread of an investment fund or a portfolio of investments over its benchmark and the risk taken by diverging more or less from that benchmark.

The information ratio is closely related to the tracking error and is used to measure the fund manager’s expertise and ability. The information ratio is a measure of whether the investment fund is outperforming its benchmark.
