Rating agencies

Financial rating agencies or credit rating agencies are companies specialized in studying and analyzing the financial risk of states, public authorities and companies.

The purpose of these agencies is to determine the level of risk of each participant and give them a rating to assess their creditworthiness.

The four major rating agencies worldwide are:

  • Moody’s Investor Service.
  • Standard and Poor’s Corporation (S&P).
  • Fitch IBCA.
  • Dominion Bond Rating Service (DBRS).
