Risk premium

The risk premium is the additional cost that a company or a country assumes in order to obtain financing.

The risk premium is related to investor confidence in the company or nation and its economic situation.

The risk premium is calculated by subtracting the interest rate of its 10-year debt issues from those of its benchmark country. For example, in Europe, the benchmark bond is the German 10-year bond.
