Volatility

Volatility is one of the main measures of investment risk, although not the only one.

Volatility measures the standard deviation of an investment over a period of time. In other words, it measures the fluctuation in the value of an asset, or how much it goes up and down over a period of time. If volatility is high, the price of the asset will change significantly; if it is low, its behavior will be more stable.
